After a 13 year career at Old Trafford, Mark Hughes begins his new job at Manchester City
June 4, 2008
Mark Hughes officially scrubbed his name off the short list of managers to replace Alex Ferguson as United manager as he signed a 3 year deal today with Manchester City.
Hughes spent 13 years at United in two spells with the club and was instrumental in numerous domestic and European successes which makes his decision to sign for City a hard pill to swallow.
Since City dumped former manager Eriksson earlier this week, speculation over Hughes’ future has been rife with former club Chelsea, where he spent 3 years, reported to be interested in his services.
It looked certain that Hughes was not Chelsea’s first choice and that is probably what swayed him. That and the money on offer.
There is no doubt Hughes will be given a huge war chest with which to bolster the City squad with all the talk coming from our blue neighbours that City want to be a top class club. All I can say is, let’s hope the Ronaldinho rumours don’t turn out to be true.
