Big game player Fletcher will play his part in the 08/09 campaign

When it looked like we were going to sign Aaron Ramsey, here at BlogUnited, we thought that Darren Fletcher’s Manchester United career looked to be over. Even though there was a loan deal on the table to send Ramsey back to Cardiff, with a squad of very capable midfielders already assembled at United, we thought the end was near and Darren would be entering his final season with the club.
However, comments made by Sir Alex to Sky Sports suggest we were well wide of the mark:
“He’s been very unlucky, but he keeps coming back. He’s an important player to us.”
Feltcher made 23 appearances last term, 12 of them off the bench. He scored 2 goals in that 4 – 0 drubbing of Arsenal in the FA Cup and overall, in the games he played, made a decent contribution to the team, a fact not unnoticed by the boss.
“He always plays well in big games – that’s the great value he brings to the club. He’s a big-game player and we’ve plenty of big games, so he’ll play his part.”
