Da Silva’s tapped up; Fabio for the first team?

Rafael da Silva has been pretty close to amazing this season. At just 18 years old and in his first season, he has ousted both Gary Neville and Wes Brown as first choice right back.

The young Brazilian has been sidelined recently with a hairline fracture to his ankle but if all goes well, could be back in training by the end of next week.

Reports in The Sun today claim whilst both Fabio and Rafael were still at Fluminese, a scout claiming to be from Arsenal tried to hijack the transfer and invited them to shun United in favour of a move to the Emirates.

“The scout said he was from Arsenal and invited us to come and train. At that time we had already been to see Manchester United and train once with our club’s permission” Rafael is quoted as saying.

“But this man wanted to take us to England and say nothing to Fluminense. We disagreed with that principle. Fluminense was where we started, we had been there for years and they looked after us.”

Fabio has had to be patient for his opportunity in the first team with Patrice Evra an automatic choice at left back. But with Evra’s form slumping recently and Fabio’s on the rise, is it time to give the young Brazilian a run out?

Fabio has made just one appearance for the senior team this term, impressing in his 52 minute run out against Tottenham in the FA Cup. He has since been utilised in the Reserves but surely he’s too good for that.

Rafael certainly thinks so. He predicts his twin brother will have a similar impact on the team as he has done and even suggests Fabio is a goal scoring machine.

“He told me the other day that I should enjoy that strike against Arsenal [Rafael’s only goal for the club so far] because it was probably the only time in our lives that I had outscored him.”

Fabio scored a hat-trick in his last reserves outing playing from left back but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him utilised as a winger one day. He’s clearly an attacking player (he started as a striker) and with no-one being able to nail down the left wing position, perhaps Fabio will be given a go.

2 people have said their bit on “Da Silva’s tapped up; Fabio for the first team?”

i think any reserve player that scores 3 in a match (even more so if they are defenders) SHOULD be called up so they start getting a taste of what 1st division matches are. with comments like the one about being loyal to a club, it the type of player that any club would love to have and more so if they dislike their classic rivals.
we can expect Man Utd to cash in bigtime within 5 o 6 years.

For me, Man Utd should give Fabio a start for the first team with the game against Wigan, maybe Arsenal & Hull. It will be great to see him. Does Sir Alex Ferguson blog? He should read blog on United just like this http://www.blogunited.co.uk
