It Takes More Than Two to Tango

1 August 09 by Bill

Since the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, a number of United’s first team have been forced to defend United’s position as a great club with ambitions for Silverware. Indeed, opposing fans and players believe United will struggle this year and even many Reds feel we will struggle to compete for honours this year.

Thankfully that is not a view shared by the players themselves with Patrice Evra the latest to claim United can still compete on all fronts.

“They (Ronaldo and Tevez) are two big players, but the star of the team is the team” he said. “Two players alone do not make a team. We have signed some good players and, like I say, Manchester United are a team and not only about two players.

“I can already see a good team coming along and we are all confident about doing well with this side as it is. We worked really well in Asia and played some good games, it was a good trip.

“We are moving along bit by bit in preparation for our first match of the season on August 9 against Chelsea (Community Shield). We want to at least defend the titles we won last season and try to win the Champions League.”
