It’s not all about Money at Aston Villa

3 June 08 by Bill

Aston Villa are the first Premier League team to give away the normal advertising space on their shirts.

Acorns, a children’s hospice, will be displayed where normally a multi million pound advert would sit. It is believe Aston Villa could have raked in over £2 million should they have sold the space.

Full credit must go to Villa and in particular their American owner Randy Lerner. I wonder if any other Premiership clubs will follow suit?

If Manchester United were to go this route, they would lose a whopping £14 million a year. Man Utd command the highest fee for shirt sponsorship in the Premiership, followed by Chelsea and Liverpool. Arsenal are way down the list with their current deal for shirts and stadium naming rights working out to just $4 million a year.
