Mikael Silvestre to stay as he eyes up 10 years of service

Speculation has been rife over Mikael Silvestre’s future at Manchester United with many believing the French defender would be heading for Bordeaux this summer.

The move would have seen Silvestre linking up with former playing partner, Laurent Blanc who is now about to start his second season as manager of Bordeaux. Bordeaux are in the market for a left-back and Silvestre is believed to be Blanc’s ideal candidate. However Jean-Louis Triaud, club president, has all but written off any potential signing.

“There are several targets for the left-back role,” Triaud said. “In that position, above all there was one who was his (Blanc’s) first choice and that proved to be impossible. Yes, I think the possibility of Mikael Silvestre coming here has ended.”

Mr Triaud went on to say “Moreover, after 10 years at that club, there is a tradition that a friendly match is organised for the benefit of the footballer with the revenue going to him.”
