Owen Hargreaves and his season long sick note

11 November 08 by Bill

Owen Hargreaves has been ruled out of the 2008/09 campaign completely after it was confirmed the England and United utility man has undergone a successful operation on his right knee and will undergo further surgery on his left knee next week.

Hargreaves has a long history of Tendonitis in his knees and it is hoped this operation will eliminate the problem once and for all. Hargreaves has had a poor run as far as injuries are concerned and you have to wonder why the medical team at United gave the transfer the go ahead in the first place. The hierarchy at Bayern Munich must have been laughing – £18 million, thank you very much.

The surgery is taking place in the United States by renowned surgeon Dr Richard Steadman with the first operation being declared a success by Alex Ferguson.

Well the operation went well,” he said. “He goes back in a few weeks’ time to get the left knee done and it means he is out for the season.

“Hopefully it will finally put it [the knee problem] to rest we feel and we have sent him to the best man.

“The last thing you want to do is to be operated on, but once you make that decision you hope it is a success.”
