Scholes back to face Blackburn?

United legend Paul Scholes could be in line to make his return from injury tonight in the Carling Cup against Blackburn. Scholes has been ruled out since suffering a knee injury in September but the midfield maestro is back in training and has put himself in contention for the match ahead of schedule:

“I have Paul Scholes in mind,” said Sir Alex Ferguson. “He is on the verge of playing again following his operation. He is training well and chomping at the bit to get started. A place on the bench with perhaps a few minutes’ pitch time could be good for him. We will see how things go.”

Despite having Scholes back in action, Ferguson has revealed that he intends to continue with his youth policy and give some of the up and coming squad members a run out.

“Although we are now into the quarter-finals, I intend to stay with the young ones who have got us this far, players like Jonny Evans, Rafael, Darron Gibson, Rodrigo Possebon and Danny Welbeck will all be involved.”

United go into tonight’s game as firm favourites with Blackburn suffering a poor run of form of late. Blackburn have taken just 1 point from their last 6 Premier League games shipping 13 goals in the process. Manchester United’s Danny Simpson is unavailable for Rovers due to the loan agreement between the clubs.

“I was gutted when we were drawn against United because it means I can’t play,” he told United Review. “It will be good to go back to Old Trafford and see a few mates, though.”
