Did John Terry spit at Carlos Tevez?

May 22, 2008

I would like to think John Terry, former England captain, had the decency to not spit at a fellow player but if you look at the footage, it certainly looks like he might have done. Now, you cannot see the “spit” as such, but you can clearly see Terry motion towards Tevez followed by Tevez rubbing his neck as if he had been spat at.

Terry firmly denies spitting but does admit to getting involved in the handbags that surrounded Didier Drogba’s red card. Terry said of the incident, “There was some pushing and shoving, I admit that, but no spitting, that is not my style. No way would I spit at another player.”

The video is far from conclusive, but have a look and make up your own mind. It’s probably best you watch this with your speakers turned off!

Manchester United, Kings of Europe

May 21, 2008

Manchester United are the kings of europe after a thrilling penalty shootout which saw Terry and Anelka miss from the spot to give the title to United.

Manchester United started the match very strong and dominated everything for the first half an hour or so. Ronaldo put the ball past Cech to put United in the driving before a lucky break away gave Chelsea a way back into the game. The goal sparked something in the Chelsea camp and they came back strong. United were on the back foot for much of the game after that but still managed to hang on and fully deserved to be crown Champions of Europe.

Goals of the Season

A record shared and a title won, Ryan Giggs the legend

May 11, 2008

Ryan Giggs is Manchester United’s most decorated payer having made claim to more winners’ medals than anyone else. It is only fitting then that on a day Manchester United secured their 10th Premiership crown, Ryan Giggs made his record equalling 758 appearances for the club and also slotted home late on to seal the victory.

With one game left of the season, the Champions League final, it remains to be seen if Giggs will break Charlton’s record for the most number of Manchester United appearances of all time this season or not. The Champions league final would be a fitting venue for such a feat and imagine if he could top that one off with the winning goal………

Capello calls for Scholes return to England

May 11, 2008

Paul ScholesIn 2004, Paul Scholes retired from International football in a bid to prolong his status as a world class footballer. There is no doubt Scholes is no longer the player he was but he has used his experience to adapt his game and is contributing an awful lot to Manchester United this season.

Scholes’ form this season has not been unnoticed and new England boss Fabio Capello seems intent on bringing the central midfielder back into the England fold. Capello, talking of Scholes and fellow former international Jamie Carragher, said: “We will make attempts with the players that have retired from international football, but we won’t and can’t force anybody to play for England.”

Capello is right, he can’t force Scholes to play and I certainly don’t expect to see Scholes pull on a Three Lions shirt ever again. Sorry Fabio, but Scholes retired for a reason; he has a family and he wants to concentrate on prolonging his United career.

Capello’s call for a return of Paul Scholes does make you wonder what the Italian’s plans are for the national team. England already has Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Owen Hargreaves, Michael Carrick, Gareth Barry, David Beckham and David Bentley in midfield so if Capello is thinking about Scholes, which of those would make way? An England midfield trio of Hargreaves, Carrick and Scholes, there’s a thought.
