Giggsy aiming for 10 in a row

September 26, 2008

Ryan Giggs wants winning runUnited’s record this season makes for pretty poor reading. Played 8 - won 2 - lost 2 - drawn 4. Hardly the sort of form that wins trophies. That said, United have got some of their most difficult encounters out of the way having played away to Liverpool, Chelsea and Portsmouth already in the league and taking four points. But after the draw away to Chelsea and Tuesday’s comfortable home win over Middlesbrough in the League Cup, Ryan Giggs believes United have turned a corner and the team can push on to go on a run of unbeaten games.

“It was a tough start, there’s no doubting that,” Giggs told MUTV. “We didn’t play well at the beginning of the season, but over the last week or so – against Villarreal, and at Chelsea in the first half especially, then tonight (23/09/08 vs Middlesbrough) – we’ve showed some really good stuff.

“We’ve got a really strong squad. A lot of the players perhaps haven’t played games in the last few weeks, but they got that game time tonight. This team’s capable of going on a winning run of 10 games. Hopefully that’s started and we can carry it on against Bolton.”

United’s next match is at home to Bolton followed by trips to Aalborg and Blackburn and then home ties against West Brom and Celtic. All matches we should be capable of winning so let’s hope Giggsy is right!

City bigger than United? Not even close says Ryan Giggs

September 4, 2008

It didn’t take long for Manchester City’s new owners to declare there was a new ‘number one team in Manchester’ but Ryan Giggs is quick to respond claiming it will take more than money to wrestle that crown from the red half of Manchester.

“City have the richest owner in the world but I still see United as the biggest club in the world” insisted the Welsh winger.

“United have a status and history that it has taken years to build up. It stretches back to the Busby Babes, to players like Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best. It will be very interesting to see what happens at City, but what we have at United is very special.

“You see it when we go abroad in pre-season; you appreciate how popular United is. We have fans in India, China, South America. That popularity is a result of our history. Money can’t necessarily get you that.”

After City took the media limelight on the final day of the transfer window, Giggs went on to suggest the media speculation and new owners’ ambitions would heap pressure on City and is keen to see how they handle it.

“People have been asking for a long time now if somebody can break into the group (the top 4). People will expect that club to be City and there will be a lot of pressure on them each season now. Everybody’s attention will be on Manchester”

A record shared and a title won, Ryan Giggs the legend

May 11, 2008

Ryan Giggs is Manchester United’s most decorated payer having made claim to more winners’ medals than anyone else. It is only fitting then that on a day Manchester United secured their 10th Premiership crown, Ryan Giggs made his record equalling 758 appearances for the club and also slotted home late on to seal the victory.

With one game left of the season, the Champions League final, it remains to be seen if Giggs will break Charlton’s record for the most number of Manchester United appearances of all time this season or not. The Champions league final would be a fitting venue for such a feat and imagine if he could top that one off with the winning goal………

Ryan Giggs beats Arsenal, Classic

June 6, 2007

Just to set the scene, it’s 1 - 1, 110 minutes on the clock and United are down to 10 men after Keane got himself sent off. Arsenal are dominating and it looks like we’re either going to penalties or losing the game. Up steps Giggs, cue the rug.

In case you’re wondering who he skins, its Vieira, Dixon (twice), Keown and Adams.
